About Us: Vermont Sun Sports & Fitness Center has been organizing triathlons and road races since 1985. We take great pride in producing races that are professionally organized, safe, fun, fair and affordable. Race organizers offer a combined 30 years race directing experience. The Venue: Nestled against the Green Mountains, just below Rattlesnake Point, is Branbury State Park. The lake region is a most spectacular and pristine place to swim, bike and run. Novice and advanced triathletes alike marvel the beauty of our courses and enjoy the mountains, lakes and streams of Central Vermont. The park is an excellent place to relax with your family before and after the event. To learn more about Branbury State Park please visit www.vtstateparks.com/htm/branbury.cfm The Swim: The 1.2-mile swim is held in warm, crystal clear Lake Dunmore. The swim will be a two loop course which is GPS measured and lined with buoys. There will be wave starts of no more than 100 participants per wave. The swim is extremely safe as you are rarely in over 6 feet of water at any given point. There will be lifeguards in kayaks and boats at various locations monitoring the course at all times. Anticipated water temperature will be in the low to mid 70’s. To view the swim course map please click the link on the left side of this page. The Bike: The 56-mile bike is a beautiful “lollipop” course, which we like to describe as “rolling”. The route is extremely spectator friendly, open to traffic and will be monitored closely by police and traffic control officers as well as course marshals. Police support will be at turnaround points to ensure safety of turns. These officers will be stopping traffic to allow for your turn. You will, as always, need to use caution when making those turns. The elevation of the course ranges from 300 ft to 650 ft. as illustrated by our elevation profile. The course has lots of new pavement with wide shoulders and will be staffed with aid stations handing water bottles to all participants as requested. A bike mechanic will be roaming the course to provide aid as needed. Absolutely no drafting. To view a course map please click the link on the left side of this page. The Run: The 13.1-mile run is a GPS measured out and back course. As it is an out and back course the run should provide for excellent spectator support. Aid stations will be found at approximately every mile and will be loaded with water, sports drinks, energy bars, gels, fruit, and more. Course marshals will be roaming the route and will provide assistance as needed. To view a course map please click the link on the left side of this page. Aqua-Bike Division: A new category developed by USAT in ’05 which includes the Swim and Bike portion of the event only. This category has been successful for the past three seasons so we will be offering this option again in ’08. This category is great for those rehabbing from injury! Course Map: Maps are available in PDF format and may be accessed by the link on the left side of this page.
